About Me

OK, I'll put some stuff about me on here but also some stuff about my plans for this web site.

About me

I am a student at Aberystwyth University studying for a Bachelors in Computer Science. I am currently away from uni however as I am in the Netherlands, Rotterdam to be precise. I am working for a company called Lunatech Research as an intern. This Industrial Year as it's called is actually a part of my course. I have been here since the beginning of July and go home in the middle of June hopefully.

Being here has been quite an experience I must say. I've learnt a lot about stuff to do with my course but also a lot about myself. I've realised that working in a company, even one as relaxed as this one, just isn't for me. Which kind of causes issues when it comes to what I'm going to do when I graduate! I've decided that what I'd really like to do is set up cafe. Perhaps I'll expand from there - cake bakery, add in a bookshop or a music bar, maybe even a "restaurant", who knows. But what I love is talking to people, interacting with them, and cooking so this seems a great way to combine them.

Other stuff...I have lived in and around Cambridge all my life save for a couple of years where I lived in America. I really loved it there, especially New England, and would seriously consider going back. I like traveling and wouldn't mind living in France, Spain or Italy for a year or two but I'm sure I'd return to Cambridgeshire (if not America) to settle down. My family have moved around a lot, especially my mother - she gets itchy feet if she stays in one house/place too long - so it's harder to put down physical roots but I do think of Cambridge as my home. I've managed to build up a mental "home", not in the crazy person way - but things that make "home" rather than a house. Things like my mum's lasagna, my dad's flaky pastry mince pies, all my mum's cats and my step-mother's "I had some fruit, some marzipan and enough ingredients to make pastry - let's see what happens"! My parents have worried sometimes that I haven't had a proper "base", no steady home but I actually think I'm a better person for it, it means I'm not attached to one location and that a few postcards, books or teddy bears can remind me of home and help me set my own home up, wherever I am.

Web site plans

My plans for this site. I don't have many really, I just wanted to set one up. I'd quite like to work one making some web-based applications, specifically one of a "wish list" type. This will be a place to host them, if I ever get round to making them! But someone suggested I use Drupal so I figured I'd install it, and now I have all these fantastical extras like a forum and a hosted blog so all of a sudden my humble site has got some proper structure. Which is quite nice. I'm going to put up recipes that people have suggested and make "Books" - a Drupal thing - for articles that users have written as well as really good reviews. Should be fun!
